This fully remote opportunity allows you the flexibility to work from home in support of Epsilon’s USDA DISC Customer.
Our Customer’s Mission:
The USDA Digital Infrastructure Services Center (DISC) operates 24/7/365 to provide comprehensive on premises and cloud-based hosting services, including Disaster Recovery, security, and professional support services and operations to approximately 35 federal organizations. The USDA and other Federal partners depend upon DISC’s highly complex and interconnected technology infrastructure to conduct their operations. To better support this mission, DISC is modernizing their technology by transitioning to a continuous integration, deployment, and code-based organization.
An average day:
As a SAN Storage Engineer, you will design, implement, and manage storage solutions, configure, and maintain the SAN infrastructure. You will optimize performance, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate will SAN team members to meet the customer’s storage needs. You will actively seek to improve and automate SAN administrative functions through consultation with customer stakeholders. Additionally in this position you will:

  • Administer Hitachi SAN and Brocade fiber networks, including installation, testing, configuration, customization, maintenance, and security in both government and commercial cloud environments.
  • Manage systems compliance and hardening according to client Policies, Standards, Regulations, and Notices.
  • Address and resolve security vulnerabilities in system software and hardware, participating in security monitoring and updating certification/accreditation procedures.
  • Patch and upgrade Ops Center and SANnav applications, troubleshoot storage system and infrastructure problems, collaborating with vendors in a fast-paced data center environment.
  • Utilize system tools for performance monitoring, capacity planning, availability management, and storage system tuning.
  • Update SSL certificates across Hitachi SAN and Brocade fiber networks, with scripting abilities in Bash or Python for automation using Ansible Automation Platform (AAP).
  • Maintain enterprise source code and configuration repositories, providing 24x7 remote support and on-premises facility response.
  • Possess familiarity with Linux system administration and TCP/IP and FCP networking configurations.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks, document changes, incidents, and problems using Configuration Management Tools and Systems.
  • Analyze system logs, participate in Post-Incident Reviews, and stay updated on industry/vendor best practices for functional areas, while ensuring data integrity through backup and recovery procedures and providing knowledge transfer documentation as needed.
  • Storage Services
    • Installation and ongoing maintenance
      • NAS, SAN, Backup/Recovery, etc.
      • Working knowledge of various storage protocols such as S3, FC, iSCSI, NFS, CIFS, etc.
      • Integration between storage systems and supporting platforms such as VMware, Kubernetes, Ansible, etc.
Basic Qualifications:
  • As a requirement of this position, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. In accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(2)(C), Epsilon will not consider candidates for this position who do not meet the aforementioned conditions.
  • Within the last 3 years, must have demonstrated experience supporting Hitachi SAN and Brocade fiber networks.
  • Must have a working knowledge of complex enterprise systems networking configurations utilizing Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and Fiber Channel Protocol (FCP) networking.
  • Ability to script in Bash, or Python.
  • Familiarity with Linux system administration.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of how issues impact a business and how they relate to IT business customers.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in the English language.  All contractor employees must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Strong time-management and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to communicate applicable technical subject matter expertise to management and others.
  • DISC follows the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) service operation best practices.  It is important for the employees to demonstrate experience based on ITIL framework:
    • ITIL v4 foundation certification is required within 6 months of hire.
    • Ability to apply and provide feedback on service operation model and practices.
